Escape

He waited

staring at the soles of her feet

creamy and moonlit

He could change himself

to fit her form

He could ignore the confinement

of religion

But he couldn’t

She was a decade in the future

She was beyond organized behavior

Her smile was her being

and her being was stuffed

into his grip

He drank every last drop of her

dizzy on the ground

he stared up at the moon

when she escaped

a conventional life
